We stayed at Hawks Cay for a wedding they had on the property. It was a nice spot.

Marco Island/Naples is your best bet. You can fly into MIA, FLL, or RSW. Obviously RSW/Ft. Meyers is the closest, but the other two are not that far.

I also recommend Islamorada. Kind of in the center of the Keys. Lots of activities and lots of waterfront dining. Hobbies is a must. If you don't have a boat, they have all kinds of excursions - fishing, snorkeling, cruises, diving, etc...

Not a lot of beaches in the Keys, as people have said.

If you are looking for peace and quiet on a beach, Hutchinson Island is pretty laid back. It's north of WPB about 45 minutes. Not a lot of fancy restaurants and clubs, but the sail fishing is spectacular. That area won't be as congested as most other areas of the state. Easy access to Beaches and the towns there are Stuart, Jensen Beach, and Fort Pierce.

The beach at the Fort Lauderdale Marriott Beach Resort and Spa is very nice.

Went to the keys with the wife (no pics) for the honeymoon. Beaches are not that common. We stayed in Marathon at Isla Bella. It has a private beach. But I would recommend Key West to visit for anything else to do. We plan to go back to just Key West. It's an interesting place.

What is a good place to stay? Just as far as commuting to different places? Islamorda? Marathon or should we just stay in Key West?
we rented a house on Marathon last year. It was easy to Key West and easy to Islamorada. There’s plenty to do everywhere

3 years ago - just the husband and I went to Miami/Ft Lauderdale - the beaches are better there

When you do, charter a boat and get out to a sandbar. No one who lives in key west goes to the beach, they take their boat to the sandbars. Overall KW is a great place, always more visitors than locals in town. Even most of the locals are from somewhere else. It’s not often you meet someone who is third or fourth generation conch
