Haydels Traditional - ships year round.
Camelia City Randazzo's in Slidell. Only ships during Mardi Gras and they have already closed shipping for the year.

The Randazzo's in Slidell is the only bakery that puts their King Cakes in a patented plastic container. When I order from Camelia City Randazzo's, I custom order it to have the purple, green, gold sugar with drizzled white icing. We don't like king cakes with tons of the white icing all over it.

We are the originator of the Mini King Cake and the Fleur de Lis King Cake, and we are the only king cake bakery that invented and patented an original, complementary king cake shipping container for select cakes.

Some years ago, I had one shipped from Sucre to a friend in Boston. The Fedex box arrived empty except for crumbs and colored sugar. Guess the Fedex folks had a nice treat. I was surprised they still delivered the box.

Meche's and the rest of the 337/Acadiana king cakes are all donut-like, which is not the case for the rest of the state as far as I've seen. Randazzo's is very soft, so not sure what the change will be like if it makes it to CO. They're usually placed in a bag then inside a box. The bag is sealed but it isn't vacuum sealed because it would ruin the frosting.

Caluda’s is my go to.

They’re an offshoot of the Randazzo’s cabal. It’ll run you $50 to get it delivered overnight.

Not true. Poupart, Keller's, Gambino's, and Great Harvest all have non donut king cakes. Meches, Village Deaux, Miko's, etc have the donut king cakes that are extremely popular for whatever reason, but they aren't all like that.

bullschite ..... you obviously haven't eaten/purchased a KC in Lafayette other than Meches. No need to stereotype other Acadiana bakeries because Meches makes an icing topped donut.
Here are a few off the top of my head ... and yes, I've tasted all the below over the years.

Rouses - offers over a dozen variety filled

Gambinos - traditional NOLA style

Great Harvest Bread Co.

Pouparts - 2 options traditional or ...

....French KC with a buttery, flaky crust and almond filling

Julie Ann’s Bakery in Shreveport. After eating here I realized they don’t know what a proper king cake is down south.

Kellers is the best and ive had alot of them. Moist and a good ratio of filling to dough. I know downtown doesnt ship maybe youngsville does.

I agree, Keller's Amaretto or the Poupart French are the best king cakes I've had. I think due to the shorter season both Keller's decides not to ship this year.

Julie Ann's is a good option to, if they ship itreminded me a lot of Poupart's Traditional. Not as dense as the Mardi Gras cakes most people associate with King Cakes, but more of a danish pastry flavor and texture and less brioche. It is by far the best in the 318, and could compete with many of the bakery options south of I-10.

Lot's of opinions as far as the best king cake, but I think for anyone out of town they are all going to be great as long as they are fresh. We've shipped Randazzo, Haydel, and Gambino king cakes to my son in Colorado and they've all been a hit with his friends. We ship USPS overnight to make sure it's fresh. Probably 80% of the time it takes 2 days to get there instead of overnight, then USPS refunds the shipping fee.

Poupart’s is most definitely not doughnut style.

They also have the “traditional” king cake that are pie shaped with almond paste filling and no icing.

Welp… others have clarified

Yes! This is who I use for family and clients. They put several cups and trinkets and stuff in the box with the shipped cakes.

The problem is Haydel’s or any other place worth a damn is sold out on shilling dates before Mardi Gras.
Just wait and order one in a few weeks after the craziness

Keller's is avg at best. Meche's blows that shite away by a mile, and I know (and don't care) that it's a "donut" king cake. It tastes better.
Pouparts is better than Keller's
