Promote me because I've never been suspended, I don't lie, or throw co-workers under the bus to save my own arse.

vs

Promote me because I have mastered all the tasks assigned to me and would really like the opportunity to take on more.

Both of these examples are drastically different.

One represents a low expectation having mthfker who thinks that as long as they are not a POS, they should be given raises and promotions. Forget about what value they add or skillset they bring, to them its all about tenure, loyalty, and honesty. Those attributes are necessary to keep a job, not to be given raises or promotions.

The second represents a person who confidently states they understand all the intricacies of the company and operations of which they are responsible for, is executing at a high level, and has the want and capacity to take on more. Those are value added qualities that create an asset worth a companies investement.
