I think a lot of pitchers had issues last year as the refs were pretty tight in the zone.

Yup, it really stood out in SEC play. Anything even close to being out the zone was a ball. They squeezed the hell out of Skenes a few times.

Moffett (if he's pitching) will run it into triple digits pretty often in the warmer months.

I'm just hoping they are all looking good - no arm issues, velo is up, and they are all throwing at least 3 pitches for strikes...

Is that all?

Had to downvote, it’s not refs in baseball.

I think Hurd gets the first shot at Friday. It seems very important to him, and I'm sure Jay recognizes that.

Holman doesn't really seem to care when he pitches.

Hurd has the more electric, wipe out stuff. Holman is a guy that will not be overly impressive to the naked eye but you'll blink and it'll the be 6th inning and he's given up 2 hits and walked 1 guy without breaking a sweat.

They're both more than capable. I think it's Hurd's job to lose. But, Holman has Team USA experience and has also navigated SEC lineups as a starter. We're still in very good hands if Holman ends up being the guy.

No, but it's a good start. I also hope they all put on 25 lbs of muscle and developed 96 mph frisbee sliders with 18 inches of break and a 65 mph circle change off the same arm motion. There's more, but I don't want to sound unreasonable.

Gage Jump may take the role by mid-season, as well. We stacked, SEC F-ed!

I know, huh? Last year, we had Skenes and some question marks. Floyd had the talent, but was a bit up and down. After that, it was Johnny Allstaff. Chase Shores looked like he was #3 with the ability to push Floyd for #2. Losing Garret Edwards didn't help.

We were lucky that Floyd got to the point where we felt he was better than almost everyone else's #2 guy, and Hurd found his mojo and was a stud at the end.

Skenes never really had an off day. I think it is unrealistic to expect that this year, but if Hurd lay an egg, we'll have Holman/Jump/Herring/Little to give us confidence that we should have a solid chance to win the remaining games in the series.

Jay is going to give Hurd every opportunity to be the Friday night guy. If Hurd gets slid into the Saturday spot then Holman will slide into the Friday night spot.

Hurd is our Friday starter. Kid turned into ice.

Ack could also be a weekend starter. Jay strongly believes in him.

Unless Holman has clearly been better in preseason practices/scrimmages, Hurd is going to get the first Friday start because of a bit of loyalty to a guy who was a part of getting you a championship last season. Now, loyalty won't outweigh production as the season goes on, so things can change. But Hurd will get the first shot (unless he would just prefer pitching elsewhere in the starting rotation)

That's pretty much how I see it as well.

I think Jay would love to use Ackenhausen similarly to Cooper, although I doubt he has the same rubber arm like Cooper.

Hurd
Holman
Jump

#4 starter likely comes from this group (Herring, Ack, Coleman, Anderson)
