Any vets find this patronizing when people say this to you? At the surface thinking about it, it would piss me off.

UPDATED OPINION: Not patronizing, and I just want to thank you all for your service here today.

Are you just making threads based on Curb Your Enthusiasm episodes now?

It depends on the context of the situation.

I may well be in the minority among vets, but for some reason, I find it annoying.

Exactly. The only way a normal person would ever think of handling it. OP has issues

I’ve said this to vets for 20+ years and not one time did they not look at me, genuinely smile, and say thank you.

Patronizing? No, people don't say that because they feel superior to vets. A few of those saying thanks may feel obligated and not mean it, but not in a patronizing way. Do some vets not like getting all of the attention that sometimes comes with the territory of being a vet and prefer to not receive acknowledgement, absolutely. Maybe that's what you are asking...

Is it that you hear it too much?

Don’t think it’s sincere?

If there is “some reason”, you have an idea of what it is right?

My vet doesn't seem to mind. He takes really good care of my dog.

After serving 25 years I have heard this countless times. I always responded “it has been an honor to serve and thank you for your support”.

When complete strangers thank you for something they don’t fully understand it’s genuine. They are just grateful they live in the greatest country on earth and our military is a big reason for that.
