whatever you think of VT's program success, the fact is that they still have more football pedigree than UVA and are a better cultural fit than the Hoos. you could argue the same for NCSU as of right now instead of UNC but UNC also has a much larger brand overall than State in a way that UVA doesn't necessarily have over VT

VT isn’t much of a brand

It was largely a regional school in the state

They don’t dominate the DC market. No one really does there is just too much competition

UVA will always be considered the crown of the state of Virginia

Hell JMU has been getting more attention in VA than VT of late.

The sooner the carnage, the sooner the Superconferences go into business for themselves.

Miami and GT will both be in the BIG. GT was offered a decade ago and turned it down due to loyalty to ACC. That loyalty is gone now. The BIG wants in Florida and GA for recruiting and the large number of alum. Outside of Chicago, Atlanta is #2 for BIG alum. The only question for the SEC is do they want to block them? As a GT alum it doesnt matter to me if we are a mid pack BIG school or SEC school. We could be a Purdue or a South Carolina. It will be fun watching the fanbases of teams in these expanded conferences lose their mind when they lose 3-4 games per year instead of 1 or 2.

Has any of this been confirmed or is it just a local news outlet reporting rumors like the Brian Kelly to Michigan stuff?

I know Florida generally dislikes Fla State, and I could see FSU being a threat in LSU's eastern recruiting base. So I could see LSU and Fla uniting in opposition to the 'Noles.
the uaa would love fsu In the sec

It would give them the perfect excuse to continue tanking the football program now that there would be another big 3 Florida program in the conference. They already have tons of UF grafs Constantly bending over and spreading their cheeks for fsu in Tallahassee. The uaa would definitely support fsu coming to the sec

In truth fsu is really Georgias biggest rival from Florida in football as both programs actually care
About winning while UF and the uaa wants a nice guy yes men holding doors open for secretaries running there got football program into the ground

If GT joins the BIG, can we move the SEC championship game to another city?

To the folks suggesting that schools like UNC might prefer the B1G over the SEC, I think there’s been a very important (read: greedy) misstep by the B1G. They just took Oregon and Washington at 50% reduced shares, and they will be taking reduced shares for years. How on earth could they turn around and invite UNC or UVA at full shares? Meanwhile, the SEC has always extended full membership invites from the start. It certainly makes the SEC a more attractive offer, if both the SEC and B1G are on the table for some of these ACC schools.

oh look...SCH crapping on VT.

First, I am not saying we are FSU or Clemson....but when it comes to football even sucking after the Fuente years: we are easily the flagship in VA...large presence in western Carolina especially Charlotte

Still solid #3 in attendance in the ACC

LINK /

#24 in the country at 7-6....in 2023

Right behind Arkansas and ahead of Ole Miss. And bout 13k more than WVU...

And if you want to compare to SEC and Big 10, these are the schools we had better attendance: Ole Miss, Kentucky, Missouri, Purdue, Oregon, Miss St, Illinois, Rutgers, Minnesota, UCLA, Indiana, Maryland

All time wins in college football, if you are only counting the P5, we would be 18th all time...a whopping 9 wins behind WVU...but a better win average than our lovely brethren from Morgantown.

As for NOVA, VT is by far and away the dominant school in the area...what school is on the largest radio station WJFK...hint...not UVA, WVU, MD...

Who knows where VT will end up due to politics...but if it was football alone...VT would be a solid #3 behind FSU and Clemson. Miami has more history...but only time their stadium is full when a good travelling teams go there.

Of course I would love for VT to be in the SEC...but I still think when this is all said and done, big time football will not be SEC or Big 10...but whatever the new name for the football league.

Isn’t there a new play off contract that guarantees an auto bid to the ACC?

No, there are no conference specific auto-bids, and the auto-bid number is up for discussion this summer. If the ACC loses Clemson and FSU I could see all auto-bids going away.

Agreed, Virginia is a growing state and VT is the football brand in that there. I spend a lot of time in NOVA and I see more VT plates, flags, clothes, etc than any other school. If they get back to recruiting the Tidewater like they did under Beamer, they could rebound quickly. They let Frank hold onto long and then made a bad hire with Fuentes. That put them behind, but in the ACC they could get back to the top in short order.

Now if they were to go to the SEC, I think they'd struggle. I get you want to be where the money and access are, but it comes with a price. Would they compete with the big dogs week in and out, probably not. I say the same thing to my fellow WVU fans who want to be in the SEC. Yes, it's better to be in the club than left out, but you'll most likely struggle against the bigger brands. In the ACC VT to me is a top 3-5 football brand, in the SEC they'd be behind a lot big name programs.

Just being a realist my brother

There are just too many big schools closer to DC and DC is a huge alumni base for a ton of non VA schools. Mine being one of them.

These ACC schools will look to the B1G first and foremost. The B1G media deal for 7 years/10 billion dollars is massive. Being on Fox, NBC and CBS is also VERY appealing!! This doesn’t even include the research funding the B1G conference gets, which absolutely dwarfs any other conference. The B1G will expand first and add Florida St, North Carolina, Duke, Virginia and Miami. Once that happens, Notre Dame will literally have no other choice and join the B1G…Finally. After that, the SEC takes Clemson, NC State, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech and Louisville.

The B1G then goes back to a more regional based alignment.

B1G East:

Penn St
Rutgers
Maryland
Virginia
North Carolina
Duke
Florida St
Miami

B1G Central:

Ohio St
Notre Dame
Michigan
Michigan St
Indiana
Purdue
Illinois
Northwestern

B1G West:

Wisconsin
Iowa
Nebraska
Minnesota
USC
UCLA
Oregon
Washington

The SEC will get to 24 members as well and do a similar type of alignment. None of these schools will choose the SEC over the B1G first. That’s just not gonna happen. There’s simply toooooo much media $$$$$ upcoming in the B1G. That’s just a fact. Not an opinion. Why would any ACC school choose to take less money?? Makes zero sense. Anyway, after both conferences get to 24 members each…welcome to the “CFP Top 48” era!!! Has a nice ring to it and makes tons of sense.

like you, just want to be at the party.

There used to be some sliver of hope that a Vick or Major Harris would come along and give schools like us a chance for the title game.

In the SEC, the best we could hope for would be a spoiler 9 out of 10 seasons, and then hopefully 1 season it all comes together and then it still might not be enough

if the gates close and schools like WVU and VT are out...then it would be hard to care....

A Big 12 with WVU, Pitt, VT, NC State, GT, etc would be ok..but deep down it would hurt knowing we are 3rd or 4th tier...as people would still say Indiana, Minnesota, etc would be the 2nd tier because they are in the group...

Bingo. It pretty much will come down to “if you are outside the SEC/Big Ten, you suck.”

The SEC has only offered full shares, the B1G has offered reduced shares to the PAC schools, you sound like an unhinged homer
