For everyone saying the straight van has right of way...would a left turning car have to wait on a stream of cars going straight despite the stop signs?

Yes.

You're wrong.

Right of ways exist outside of four way stops.

Car is at fault, but they are both fricking idiots and driving wrecklessly. Neither were watching the road in front of them when they took off, if they were it wouldn't have happened at all.

Of course they do. And you think in this case, a vehicle making a left turn into oncoming traffic has the right of way?

One of two things is true:

A. The car driver is an idiot who doesn’t know the rules of the road.

Or

B. The car driver knows the rules of the road and is looking for a payday from USPS.

It's not oncoming. There's a fricking stop sign.

And the car didn't? What the hell gives the car the right of way? When they both leave the stop sign the truck becomes oncoming traffic and the car becomes the vehicle attempting to turn into oncoming traffic. How can you not grasp one of the most basic concepts of driving?

The responses are more shocking than the accident. Holy frick I'm amazed there are so many people that don't understand that it doesn't fricking matter who got there first.

We ought to be driving around in bumper cars.

So by your dumb logic, if I got the stop sign first and then another car decides to be an arse and go first I can ram him and it’s his fault? Some people need to stay off the streets…

So if I’m going left and there’s a line of 10 cars at the stop sign across from me, I have to yield to all of them and let them all go before I go left?

At an intersection such as the one in this video, yes you have to wait.

If it's only a 2 way stop like in the video, yes you do. You'd be best off just turning right and finding a spot to turn around in to where you only have to make a right turn to go the direction you need to go instead of stubbornly waiting for an opportunity to legally turn left.

Eh. Not enough info in the video. The dash cam needs to go back a few seconds to see which vehicle stopped first.

I don't think that's necessary

The driver in the car was being negligent even if they had the legal right of way

In a 4 way it stop, it matters. Other than that, it means nothing.

You might someone else go first, but that is a courtesy. And nothing more.

People will say the car is at fault because it was turning, but that’s not correct. Since both had the stop sign the vehicle that stopped first has the right of way (whether turning or going straight).

Assuming that’s true (not sure it is), the car literally turned into the side of the van. I’m not sure how you could argue that that the car didn’t cause the accident.

Of course you don’t have to yield to 10 cars, but once you’re both moving turning left into the side of a car isn’t recommended
