Living in North Stadium dormitory.

We played a LOT of football and basketball. We would have card games. We would hit the bars on Friday and Saturday nights, drinking and trying to meet women. Fred’s, some bars on Bennington, and Cowboys where my best friend worked. I never got a DWI but it wasn’t much to worry about back then. Nobody thought anything about drinking and driving. The laws got a lot of stricter later on, as they should have.

The dorms were still being used in 1984?

I was 9-10 years old and I remember going to football games back then and it’d seemed like that dorms were abandoned back then.

Props to you, I bet you have some awesome stories. My mom graduated from LSU in the late 60’s early 70’s and lived in those dorms for a little while, she doesn’t talk much about it

Spring of 84- senior year of high school, feeling like a big fish in a little pond. Senior trip to the rocking Ramada at Fort Walton Beach and Cash’s. Caught Billy Idol in concert in Mobile…first time I ever saw someone smoking pot.

Fall of 84- LSU freshman. Power Dorm. Pledgeship in the Blue and Gold. Murphy’s. Great Tiger football season. The joy of the 3 hour drive home on a fall weekend, passing through the cotton fields ready for harvest.

Absolutely a tremendous year…..one of the best of my life!

A 5th grader with a crush on 2 cuties in the class at the time.
Had a white shimmering glove....just like Michael Jackson. He was all the rage.
Seeing Reagan win in a landslide
Playing intellivision and colecovision video game systems
Watching Bird and Magic in an epic NBA finals clash finally.
And of course cheering in the rain at Camp Randall as the Badgers upset Keith Byars and Ohio State on front of a CBS national TV audience with Brent Musberger and Ara Parsegian on the call
Followed up by a Badger bowl game trip to Birmingham and the Hall of fame Bowl vs Kentucky.
Al Toon was the star Wr that season.

The mid 80s were my favorite years growing up.

I’d just moved to Winter Park Colo. from Lake Charles. 18. Back when Ranchers ran Colorado. 1% sales tax, no income tax. Skied for 16 seasons. Time of my life.

Last of my four years in Pearl Harbor, my ship was in dry dock. So from eight thirty a.m. until noon overhauling all valves in sonar area. At noon take boat to Ford Island to change in civilian clothes then head to Waikiki picking up tourist chicks. Probably the best year of my life.
I flew back to Lafayette Christmas Day. Met my wife in January and have been with her since.

I’d like to tap the brakes. I grew up in the 70s/80s, and had two loving, cigarette smoking and vodka drinking parents. But really they were great.

And my memories consist of a lot of good music, a-hole gym teachers, and first loves. I.e. what everyone since the Stone Age has experienced. People romanticize the past and it will be the case forever.

Main duty station:

2 trips to the DMZ:

1 week temporary duty assignment:

Places visited:

Was very much like the original Disney in Anaheim. Main difference was that the lines weren't nearly as long...many locals were too short to get on the rides.

Tokyo...the one city that may be more lit up and a bigger assault on the sense than Vegas.

Seoul, South Korea...

Flew back stateside a few days before Christmas. This gorgeous sight was my first glimpse as I was returning back to "the land of the big PX." The plane erupted in cheers.

Living in a small one bedroom apartment with a pregnant wife in North Little Rock... Great View... The Firm and Total Eclipse of the Heart was on with other music.

Gas was about $0.95 and I was lucky to be making $7 an hour...

I shutter to think of the traffic on that Blvd now...

Passed there today going to my doctor's office. Water Street and that vicinity are one of the few areas of Henderson that were around in 1984.
