lol. Yeah like I said every wire has a heat shrink label. Only stickers are on the breaker box but if those do fall off for some reason the wire connected to it is still labelled

I’m not scared to make the label maker go brrrrt.

Are you doing boats on the side or are you out of a shop?

Just on the side, but I do have a gated shop to keep them at while I work on them.

Mainly just been doing friends boats or friends of friends boats. I probably do maybe 4-5 boats a year.

A clean wire job is something I can stare at for longer than I should and is something I feel I could never accomplish.

A boat I bought used not that long ago had obviously gone through several electronics brand changes. I do not think the old wires were ever removed. I should have taken pictures.

CP3, not to high jack, but where are you located and do you do stuff like adding speakers and amps? Have a nautic star 224xts with a head unit and 2 console speakers. Looking to add to it and clean up under console.

That’s probably the most common thing I see that causes rats nest. One I’m doing now I ripped out probably 10 wire runs that were just abandoned and not even used anymore lol. That and stuff like wire nuts and using cheap wiring/non-tinned wiring.

I’m in BR. Very familiar with that model Nautic Star since I have one lol.

I’ve rebuilt 480v panel boxes for aerators on the farm. It’s not hard to do per se it just takes time and patience to do it right. It’s worth it in the long run because not only does it look better, but it’s safer with high voltage and it makes diagnosing electrical issues down the road much easier

How do you print on heat shrink? Assuming this is a combination printer/ material purchased together?

I'm guessing there's a good chunk of money in new wire in the OP's boat. Definitely looks fantastic.

He doesn't. He prints a label and sticks on the wire. Clear heat shrink on top of the label.

He's doing awesome work.

Nope. I have a Dymo label maker that prints directly on heat shrink for the smaller wiring. Buy cartridges of heat shrink for it anywhere from 1/4” to 3/4”

I only used a regular label w/ clear heatshrink for the NMEA connectors because my label maker can only print on up to 3/4” heat shrink labels.

Nice work CP, I was going to use him but ended up using a local kid, that's friends with my son who is just getting started. His work is good too but not as nice as yours.

As far as the labeling you can buy a label printer at Wal-Mart for $40 that will print on heat shrink. Print what you want, stick it over the wire and hit it with the heat gun. Works well.

Exactly. I took pictures of mine, and then wrote the whole schematic down, made two copies laminated it all out one in boat and put one in filing cabinet folder for all the boat shite
