Word out of BR is that our new Gov met with Tm Temple and GOP leaders yesterday and told them that he would veto ANY auto insurance or litigation reform confirming that he is bought and paid for by Gordon and his ambulance chaser buddies. The rumors during the campaign were apparently true.
Idiots like this are why we stay at the bottom.

You are completely missing the entire problem with Louisiana if you are just now realizing that the governor is corrupt, no matter who he/she is.

Most of the “tort reform” bills pre-filed are extremely poorly drafted and wouldn’t not even approach the actual desired effect. Some are even blatantly unconstitutional.
The last round of “tort reform” led to auto insurance rates continuing to increase. Our rates are high due in large part to shitty roads and shittier drivers, plus the significant amount of uninsured/underinsured drivers, coupled with insurance company greed.

I've got my money on the guys that build giant office buildings next to the interstate.

I mentioned this in a previous thread, why not create or dedicate a specific division in district court to handle all civil suits involving automobile crashes and increase the fee to file such case and establish a pretrial court mediation panel that must hear the case before going to trial. Shorten the prescription period back to 1 year or less to ensure that when trials occur witnesses are still capable of recalling the accident and not retelling a different story after the age of time has changed their memory. 3 years is a long time to sue. Sometimes people forget what they ate for breakfast let alone an accident that may have happened 4 years ago if the prescription is increased to 3 years and the court waits a year before heading to trial.
It is also unfair to the insurance companies because they now have to pay interests for an additional year in addition to 3 or more years of document and evidence retention, and an attorney that oversees the claim for that long.

Some of the reforms being discussed are more favorable to insurance companies, for instance, it would be harder to sue your insurer over a claim. Changes like this would make Louisiana more attractive to insurers thus bringing in more companies, creating competition and driving down prices. The problem is in the perception that the insurance commissioner is a friend of insurers and Landry realizes the optics don’t look good. Bottom line, changes like this have to happen, there is no quick fix, and it’s going to suck for a number of years until we see some progress.

I suspect you are correct...but let's get through this regular session before we start making bold claims like this based on rumors.

What did you expect? He's only popular with the social warrior folks. That shite does absolutely nothing to improve this godforsaken welfare state.

There is a lot of propaganda right now that is mega anti-Landry. Every reddit sub about BR or LA is spinning Landry hate and I am sure the Dems are pressing the issue. If he actually does a lot of bad things that would be one thing, but to my knowledge, he hasn't done much yet. Time will tell. But right now, this is coming from leftist idiots who hate conservatives.

Duh. He was a trial lawyer, then elected to Attorney General. He is conservative, just thinks like a trial lawyer. There are many conservative trial lawyers out there, they just see the issue different. Everyone knew this when he ran and it didn't seem to matter. All the emphasis on winning seems to be the overriding concern of most Republicans today.

Every politician in Louisiana is and has been like this for decades now.
The parishes are run by below average leadership and the staff, lets not even get started.
Get a job with the parish or state and its a collect a check type of gig. Its just facts. Laziness and lining ones own pockets is the ultimate goal of the parish and state workers.
End of discussion. When it becomes about actually fixing this place they know what they have to do.

LA will get a 2-year prescription (statute of limitations) period. He's not as bullish on many of the other tort reform proposals and made that known (internally) to key legislators. Basically instructions to them to revise the bills to be less "defense" friendly before they get to his desk because he's not going to veto anything a Republican super majority sends to his desk.
My thoughts on Landry have never changed. He's 100x better than having JBE in office. He's going to get a lot of red-meat conservative social crap passed. He's not going to meet hopes/expectations in improving LA's business/economic climate.

Landry is known in political circles as the most bought and paid for guy in the state. Look no further than the MMA Hurricane fraud case. Received notice of the fraud while he's still the AG, immediately receives a donation from the defrauding law firm and doesn't pursue the matter at all.
Guy is a clown.
