Funny how Bernie was the savior of the old commies and young socialists. Then he sold them out for a few bucks. And hasn't done a god damn thing in 8 years on their behalf.

Bernie needs to do some reading.

Some countries already have a 32 work week. There has been studies that people are more productive. This would not work in my current position but could benefit others.

The U.S. is behind the curve unfortunately.

lots of folks will be out of jobs in the next 10 to 15 years. It's coming.

Probably. Then they'll be hired back as temps when the machines break down.
The penny pinchers running companies now are as short sighted as the bureaucrats running government agencies. Since the crash in 2008 they've been cutting, cutting, cutting expenses to make pretty reports for investors and keeping stock prices up. They've cut equipment maintenance down to "run to failure" levels. They're balancing minimum staffing with needed overtime coverage. Now my employer is holding off on 401k company match till year end so they can use that cash during the year.
Those cuts will never be reversed.
And while they're cutting production expenses they're blowing millions on company wide feel good initiatives or integrating operator controls with the company network so some psycho in a board room can monitor production numbers on a piece of equipment on the other side of the planet in real time.. as if that data will do anything but make the psycho feel important.
I've been hearing corporate wet dreams of automated/robotic/AI equipment for years. And it'll happen. HAS happened in some of our plants. But every time... They won't take the savings on labor and reinvest it back into maintaining the magical equipment. It's now needed to prop up the stock price. Then the equipment breaks and they hire people to do the broken equipment's job.
Big companies are as stupid and inefficient as big governments.

Meh, rant over.. and so is my break.

Humans have worked on reducing the amount of labor needed for survival since early agricultural times. In modern post industrial times we have filled that gap with needless bureaucratic and administrative tasks.

Now that we're almost to that point with automation, why not enjoy the fruits of that labor?

Agreed, but you're a little off on your point. "Businesses" work on procedures to increase safety and effectiveness, as a whole, for the profit of the company. "Employees" using tools and/or technology to be more valuable to the company. Now, it's up to you whether or not to share your new skill with your boss/company. I usually enjoy the reduction in stress, in silence, until I'm ready to negotiate for the larger raise.

In my opinion, these proposed 32 hour work weeks will just cause companies to hire more employees, and reduce the pay through natural attrition or reduce staff to do more with less. This "perfect world" scenario the left is looking for just isn't realistic and is just a carrot leading to more disruption.

Fair enough. Lets compare those economies to ours and see which would be more benificial? We are behind the times, I often hear the same thing from universal healthcare proponents lol. Let's be more like Cuba.

Sanders is a populist. This is the sort of thing a populist says.

I would love it as would any sane individual. But the downside of paying the same for less work just isn’t feasible in our country

The federal government should not be regulating the workweek regardless if it’s 32 or 40.

For the same reason that there should not be a "minimum wage."

Bottom, get through the cpa, and demand you only work 32 hours for the same pay.

Id like to see the data on this.

Think about a country that doesnt work like us. Spain. Some places dont even reopen after siesta.

When you go to these places and see they dont work you realize why they have less money than us.

For the most part, the employer is in the power position in this negotiation. While you might believe that doesn’t apply to yourself, I’d say it likely applies to 60-80% of the workforce, so when they exercise that power and refuse to employ anyone not willing to work 60+ hours a week without any type of overtime, most would be fricked.

How’d the free market work back in the 20s and 30s when work conditions were needlessly dangerous and many workers worked 6-7 days a week, because the employer told them to.

I’m all for small government, but to act like the free market is perfect is asinine.

Automation, AI, and Robotics are going to decimate the American workforce in the coming years.

This isn’t something new. Tractors, cotton pickers, gins, mills and all types of industrial machinery have been decimating work forces for centuries.

Much of the poverty in the Delta is due to ag equipment replacing farm workers. The population is too great for the amount of jobs available.
