Bussey brake trip

Heading to Bussey early Monday morning, hoping to get there around daylight. I’ve never been, so just kind of wondering what to expect. Looks like a cool front will be coming through Monday and Tuesday, so hopefully that doesn’t affect water temp too much.
I rigged up a 5/8oz flipping rod for flipping thicker cover, and then a 1/4oz for a regular texas rig. Also planning on throwing a white and chartreuse chatterbait, and various top waters(buzz baits, frogs, whopper ploppers). Anything I’m missing or I should take off my list?
Also, how’s the crowd on Mondays and Tuesdays? Am I going to be waiting in a 30 minute line to launch?

Bussey has a Facebook site where you’ll probably get more specific information on how to fish it. You can probably call Simmons in Bastrop and they can probably put you in touch with someone happy to educate you on the reservoir. Same with the LDWF HQ in Monroe, they are helping with the management.

FYI the bassfishermen have been catching the heck out of them at Caney.

Caught 10.02 there 3 weeks ago. Black and red lizard, 10 ft of water. Good luck

Buddies went recently. Caught good numbers on the banks but no tanks. Bigger fish were being caught further out in little bit deeper water from other fishermen they talked to who were live scoping. Flipping creature baits mainly.

Went this past Tuesday. At 8am there were 35 vehicles parked in the parking lot with three more launching with us. After we launched we stopped counting when we hit 20 more boats launching.
We fished the submerged trees/brush in 4-6 feet of water with not much luck. Ended up turning on LiveScope but only saw a handful of fish big enough to be bass.
The lake is only 2600 acres so with that many boats we had company all day. EVERYONE was throwing a beaver and spinner bait so throwing something besides those may help.
Be careful in the boat rows. There were a lot of people that didn’t know how to operate a boat driving way faster than their ability.
With it being a 2hr and 40min drive for me I’ll stick to my local lakes and Toledo unless staying overnight from now on.

I made the trip. Got up here around 7am, there was about 4 trucks in the parking lot. I only saw a handful of people all day. First fish was about 2lbs (over 16”), second was about 3lbs, first fish was released. 3rd fish about 4lbs, second fish was released. *only keeping 1 over 16” in my livewell*
Then it got interesting… 4th fish was 10lbs 9oz. 5th fish was over 9lbs but the waves were so bad from the wind I couldn’t get an exact weight.
Then I (thankfully) started catching fish under 16” so I could keep them. Ended up with 5 bass and 1 13” sac a lait.
Ready to see what tomorrow holds for me.
