First time I realized it might be wrong to dump it down the storm drain was when some couple walking down the street started yelling at me for doing it. This was during the 80s in New Orleans. My dad told me to ignore the smelly hippies and carry on.

Lucky. Give Dad the three gallon jug and he would drop it off at the Motor Pool on his way to work. ( Air Force brat)

I remember going and dumping it in the ditch behind our house when I was a kid.

Yep. That was my paw paw that had me do that

I pretty much grew up over there, and changing the oil in their vehicles, 2 tractors, a Snapper and a Graveley was one of my "jobs" by the time I was 12 or so. I dumped so much oil on that fence row the ground is probably still black.

We would pour out on ant beds, and leave the oil filter, turned upside down on top for a week before throwing it away

I dump mine on a baby duck so I can try to wash it out with dawn to see if the commercials are accurate

We'd mix used oil with diesel in 5 gallon buckets and use it for the burn piles.

It's a good flammable mix and flows well through a sprayer hose.

And then you lay a looooong trail of it away from the pile and light it and watch it move towards the pile like something out of Indiana Jones (the good ones) and then

WHOOOOOOOSH

When I was an Abrams tanker in the Army for over 20 years, you'd occasionally see an Abrams with a major Class I leak. The turbine engine holds 25 quarts of turboshaft oil and the transmission holds 40 gallons of some sort of 30 weight. And then how much ever FRH (fire resistant hydraulic) oil for the main pump and the auxiliary hydraulic pump.

The officer nerds would always try to make us call the EPA and break out our shovels to dig up dirt. Yeah, frick that. I'd tell the guys to cover it up with dust and keep kicking arse.

I take it to the auto parts store now, but in the 70s and 80s you poured it out on fire ant mounds
