It was never like that, they never dated. It was just a hookup. In fact, dude never had a girlfriend. The first girlfriend he ever had, ie a girl that wanted to sleep with him more than once, he married. It has not turned out well.
And the girl in my OP was cute and horny, and easy to get off, but turned to heroin after she dumped me and her life went to shite, she didn't age well. The reason for the breakup was really the long distance factor. I was a student in Athens and she was a whore in my hometown and had apparently been molested by her father and I reminded her too much of him with my good looks, rapier wit, and He-Man physique.

They are on the same basketball team and they never withheld the ball from each other but it was pretty cold for a while.
They’re fine now but he used to be at our house every week but hasn’t been back since.

I guess it depends on how desperate you are. I can't imagine in today's world, but back in time it was definitely a thing. Many a ex of my friends came on to me, but was considered damaged goods. Maybe it also depends on population, I was in a well populated area in my teens. I can think if you lived in a small town and there's only so many boys and so many girls, the rules might change.
