Cornell is located in Ithaca, New York, roughly 200 miles from the Big Apple. Ithaca has Cornell and Ithaca College surrounded by farmland and the Finger Lakes. Not much else going on there. It's about as safe of a college town as you can find.

Except for the fact it has one of the highest crime rates in the country in relation to comparable city size.

I will say the campuses of Cornell and Ithaca are much safer than many campuses I have been involved with. Cornell has done a solid job with antisemitism being visible on campus since winter break but as soon as you step off campus it is a very different situation.
