Happy Easter and welcome to Germany and Niedersachsen. Down here we have it a lttle better regarding travel: Austria in 40 minutes, Italy in 3 hours, Switzerland in 1, etc. Asia is one flight away. But you're close to the sea, and Hamburg is a really cool city to visit. Berlin isn't far from you either.
I don't know how your German is, but you can't underestimate the importance of being able to understand what's going on around you. The Volkshochschule is a great resource for this. Is your wife German?
I shouldn't do this, and we'll probably never meet, but if you want any tips or for whatever reason, contact me at razorsteven@t-online.de.

Thanks! My German is Scheisse right now. The wife too. She’s bilingual but French and English. We never really expected a move to Germany. We are planning to do some classes as I’ve already come to realize we need to know the language. We will for sure be planing a trip down south at some point and would love to meet up with you guys. There’s a few questionable characters on here who know both the wife and me who can vouch for us . I have your email and will drop you a message soon.
