I think you’re both over complicating it.

Trump wins on the issues aside from abortion. And abortion isn’t on the ticket. So they have nothing to talk about.

So they have to find another way to get voters to turn out. So they are trying to stir outrage and fear.

The left reacts strong emotionally. So it’s their best chance.
