Yep.

According to the guy who has no kids, letting a 10 year old believe in fantastical things is abuse.

In what way?

I have to imagine a lot of this is like the social media-based narcissism where "we want him to enjoy it for as long as possible" is really "we want to enjoy watching him enjoy it for as long as possible". Like I bet the mom is worried she won't get to do Elf on a Shelf this year and, more specifically, won't be able to post pics from doing it.

5th grade is really old to be believing in that stuff, especially today.

OP is in the wrong here.

Anything that takes away the ability of a child to enjoy a holiday is a bad thing.

Your kid had no right to say that and you are being a complete jerk to defend it.

Stop being a dick

Some may argue that it is being a dick to your kid to let them endure ridicule from their peers. This bunny story is transitory, from belief into knowing, at that age range.

If it was a 5 yr old, go along.
5th or 6th grade, time to find out some of the real world and have them participate in the setup for the younger kids. That way they can enjoy both knowing and doing.

5th grade is 10-11 years old.

They should have moved on to more advanced fantastical things by now.

I know not everyone is going to figure it out on their own by 1st grade like SFP and friends did, but that 4 year gap is yuge.

Wait, your 17 year old was hunting eggs? lol. And you are being a jerk to a 5th grader for believing in things?

Wow

You don't want your kid to be the first at school to know the truth....but you for damn sure don't want them to be the last to know.

Once my kids question if they are real....I tell em.

This sounds like an epic fail on both sides.

You didn’t figure it out at the age of 6.

This is simply another situation of you attempting to sound more enlightened than everyone else.

4-5th grade is essentially when the last people figured it out in school since it was when we all moved to the “big school” from elementary.

I remember it being a big deal in like 3rd grade (kids who still believed were made fun of), and I can only place it b/c I started public school that year. I don't remember anyone believing in that stuff 2 years later.

Tell your sister that she is a secular and is not teaching her son about the true meaning.

Did you not do this with your kids? Santa, Easter bunny, tooth fairy?

Well not just me. A group of us did. We had a roundtable (that school had round tables for lunch) discussion about it and decided it wasn't true.

Kinda gay that your 17 year old son was participating in an Easter egg hunt.

This is the bigger issue at hand IMO

Exactly, what 17 year old hunts for Easter eggs?

It might be better that your nephew heard from your son than hearing it at school. Kids can be pretty cruel in the school yard about things like that.
