And When it was said & done, i wouldn’t even classify him as a bad SS. He just had a bad few months. Playing SS is one of the hardest things to do in all of sports.

It was compounded by his struggles at the plate. Bad defense and bad offense will get a lot of folks, me included, calling for your head. He fought back on both fronts but then collapsed down the stretch. That's baseball and its also easy to comment from the cheap seats.

I'm aware, but when you're struggling on both ends and surrounded by studs, it makes your mistakes shine even brighter

ETA: talking JT. calling for Braswell's head, especially with how this season is going, is asinine

Braswell is fielding .920 right now. For reference:

Thompson 2023: .924
Thompson 2022: .894
Thompson 2021: .938
Hughes 2019: .961
Smith 2019: .957
Hughes 2018: .957
Robertson 2017: .963

Braswell is struggling, but it’s not as bad as people are making it out to be.

I know, and I agree with you

I’m just saying it again, playing SS is hard. Like finding a QB in football. There are only so many truly elite ones

I’m not denying that, but I’m comparing him to other SS, not some 1B that isn’t expected to be good defensively. Braswell has made a bunch of errors this year and he doesn’t have the physical tools to make up for it like Thompson did. Even when Thompson was making errors, every once in a while he would make a great play that would somewhat make up for it. Braswell doesn’t get that because he doesn’t have the physical abilities to make those plays.

I’m not calling for him to be benched, but I think this year up to this point he has been pretty bad defensively relative to other shortstops. Hopefully he improves.

Braswell is getting to more balls on average than Thompson did either of the last two seasons.

I’m not really worried about flash. Tho there are several plays Braswell makes look easy that a casual fan may take due granted, esp charging the ball & turning DPs.

Yeah I haven’t watched as closely this year but Braswell’s range is much better than Thompson’s was. Thompson has a big league arm though.

Thompson made somewhat tough plays looks incredibly hard. Braswell makes those same plays look routine.

Yea Thompson was a monster on the backhand & to his right. Braswell is good to his left & charging, turning DPs & tracking pop ups into the OF. Yea he isn’t Austin Nola or Bregman but he’s a solid SEC SS, defensively.

Keep in mind LSU hit rock bottom and is still ranked quite a bit higher in the D1 poll than South Carolina.

Man he’s a better fielder than this. In his head

this is what is frustrating...he is a great player....can't get out of his own way.

Braswell also doesn’t have Morgan at 1B. Not to rail on Thompson but that kept a lot of E’s off his stat line

Bear still looks goofy over there sometimes, but has been better than expected. He’s still no Morgan

Fielding percentage is also the dumbest most incomplete statistic in baseball.

It really is. Sadly, at the collegiate level we don't have anything better. So people latch onto it as an objective metric as if it's not subjectively decided on by people like that retard Bryan Lazarre.

The reality of it is simple. Braswell has made 8 errors thru 30 games. That's like an error every 4 games...which for a shortstop sounds about right. Sure, its contingent on the number of attempts and plays that are considered routine.

But the fact of the matter is that our fans try to create problems where there aren't any...Braswell isn't a problem right now and he's sure as hell not the reason we're losing games.

Right! If you cut the runs scored from walks in half we probably win the Arkansas series. But people wanna complain about Braswell

Good point. There are 2-3 South Carolina trolls who think they are entitled to become regulars on the rant. One in WBB and another in baseball.

Time for the mods to show them the door.

Hey Shithead. I know you guys have a complex and all since WBB is the only sport you’re relevant in, but some not-so-friendly advice:

The SEC Rant is that-a-way. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>
