I choose not to live in those school districts so my children don't go there - I gladly pay high property taxes because I see those dollars at work in my kids schools - here people move to certain areas knowing they will get higher taxes but their kids will be better off for it because those taxes don't go into some statewide slush fund - that part always gets left out of this, and as a LA native, took me a while to grasp - it matters

I would to see my mortgage statement at the end of the year with rising insurance rates in Louisiana plus increased property taxes due to no income tax. This shite will be more than my principal.

If higher property taxes are less than the gone income tax, who cares?

Property tax needs to go too. Only sales tax should be allowed.

Only problem with this is rural counties/ parishes may get cut disproportionately due to much fewer retail establishments in those smaller counties.

No, Mr Politician. You figure that out NOW.

Eliminate income tax, cut spending by a like amount, and allow local cities / parishes to dedcide if they want to pick up the slack in spending and raise property taxes to pay for it.

Do you honestly believe this will be the outcome?

It can be.

My tax liability is WAY higher in Louisiana vs Texas.

Let me know when Tennessee, Florida and Texas residents start advocating implementing an income tax in order to reduce property taxes.

These threads are fricking hilarious because there are real world examples of this playing out in the southeast and those real world examples show the opposite of what all the retarded louisiana residents think will happen.

But I guess that could be expected. Louisiana is the dumbest state.

THIS. Cut government spending. None of the “conservatives” including the brilliant Richard Nelson ever suggest such.

How much revenue does La. take in via income tax? Answer- in FY 2022 Ed collected 4.556 Billion dollars or 29% of the revenues collected.

Then we need to cut state spending that much, right?

So what can the state cut?

Going the Texas route.

I know the sales tax in LCH is stupid, like 10.2% or something obscene.

This is how Texas gets away with it and yet people think it’s such a big difference not paying state income tax. The states gonna get their money one way or another

Having moved to Houston from Louisiana, I finally got to see it first hand. We are in a pretty great location 15 minutes from Downtown, but you pay for that privilege. Our house is comparable in size to what we had in Baton Rouge. Property tax in Baton Rouge last paid was around $2k where as it's $7500 here. And while some suburbs can offer you a "cheaper" property tax, it's not usually a huge difference and you are way away from the city. For the average baw, you basically break even with no state income tax because of the higher property tax.

Government is. The legis could frick up a one-car funeral. If any of them including Nelson would plan a cut in spending along with the income to property tax swap I’d likely support. Until then, there would be zero difference except local retards instead of state retards depositing my check.
