He clearly wasn't thinking through a legitimate proposal. He jumped at the opportunity to make headlines showing how patriotic he is.

He is not patriotic, he is opportunistic and idiotic.

Landry is really disappointing me here. He really wants scholarships taken away, because an athlete misses an anthem? This is so ridiculous. Why can’t these politicians just act normal? This is extreme. I believe in free speech even if I don’t agree or like what I am seeing or hearing. I wish more people could have a bit more understanding and focus on things that are actually important. Forcing college athletes to attend anthems should not be a priority, but here we are. And this is during the age of NIL.

Those athletes better not be getting taped up or using the restroom or getting the trainers to work on a tweaked muscle back in the locker room that occurred during warm-ups. Big Brother Jeff will have eyes on you ready to pull your scholarship!

What if the students in the stand that are on an academic scholarship aren't at attention for the anthem, furthermore what happens if an athlete on another LSU team is in attendance at the football game and does not stand for the anthem? Does it apply to them as well?

I hope someone from Landry's staff has been reading all of these threads and realize that this was an idiotic move. But if the standard bearer is any guide, all the people working for him are imbeciles as well.

For the lawyers on the board:

Can LSU or CKM seek a TRO or gag order prohibiting the governor from continuing to defame the university or coach pending a determination of the facts and a defamation lawsuit against said governor?

We'll have them questioned in front of panels made up of 3 dudes from Livingston Parish to determine if they really do love America. If they fail, say bye bye to that scholarship.

That is why I believe she is doing the compromise where she keeps her team in the locker room a la Mike Tomlin,

I see again that you won't answer my question as to how you know Mulkey is keeping the team in the locker room. At least you have moved your standard to "I believe", I'll take this as a victory

Republican politicians from Louisiana are not really republicans. They’re democrats who call themselves republicans. They constantly do stupid things like encourage group think and government overreach.

L O L! Three months into a four year term and you make this statement. Talk about emotional overreaction little girl.

You mean like trying to write a bill to strip athletes of their scholarships if they dont stand for the anthem emotional overreaction? Or just the normal overreaction?

Why? Why is he choosing this hill to die on? They didn't miss the anthem on purpose for God's sake. If you want them to be out there for the anthem, play it 3 minutes before tipoff, not 15. Instead we have this asinine virtue signal when we don't need it.

He needs to hire more police to monitor the stands. If people are not standing for the anthem they could create a whole new revenue source with fines.

Getting a hot dog during the anthem $200
Going to the bathroom $200
Walking to your seat $200
Scratching your arse $200
Checking your phone $200

They could make enough to give more raises for his friends.

I'll go a step further and say he should use the state's emergency alert system to announce any time a sporting event is starting with the anthem. All Louisiana residents will be required to stop what they're doing and the notice will tell them which direction to face until the anthem is complete.

You think not being physically present excuses you from respecting our nation? Think again you little commie

Not sure if this has been mentioned but LSU’s football team and their opponent are always in their locker rooms during the national anthem at Tiger Stadium and I hope that never changes.

It got him on Fox News. Now the base knows who he is. That's the first step to being a presidential contender. Ole Jeff is too big for Louisiana to contain him, at least in his own mind.

Gymnastics goes on tonight. Let’s see if they’re present for the anthem

They are in Fayetteville tonight. I don’t know the timetable there, and the singing of the national anthem probably isn’t even televised. I’m talking home meets. Just like womens bb, they warm up and then go back to the locker room. They also have to change into competition leotards. While they are in the locker room, other things are going on in the pmac, including the singing of the anthem. The team comes back out later for introductions.

The whole thing is just so absurd. The governor is losing his mind over something that goes on in multiple sports at multiple schools. Not only is he dead wrong about there being some intentional walking out on the anthem, he’s going scorched earth on LSU, its coaches, players, and the state in general.

Same with gymnastics. And probably other sports, too.

This douche bag governor is just as much a political grandstander as Kaepernick and the other dumbasses that made a big production of kneeling . Respect the flag and what it stands for, but leave politics out of sports , it ruins it . The team going to the locker room wasn’t even political but now this dummy is making it political .

I expect everyone defending Landry to be facing northwest and saluting tonight as the anthem is playing.
