A few things:

Food producers have bet, correctly that even if you bitch about the prices, you'll pay the nutt....because it's food

The last 12 months though have not been ideal for things like cattle and some grains like corn because of weather.

In the last 6 months there has been a re-emergence of bird flus thus the price of eggs have started to go up

Then there is the dollar and how it is acting on the commodities market.

Corn is cheap and plentiful. I own a Feedmill. Trust me this is one of the few bright spots on this economy. It is not a factor.

The government stopped letting companies use unfertile eggs from hatcheries. That has decreased the egg supply in a big way. The bird flu has not really affected egg supply or poultry meat any. You can blame the govt for this artificial decrease in supply.
