While I'll agree that things aren't made like they used to be... this seems incredibly excessive. If the house is 25+ years old and you aren't having issues with HVAC or health, I'd guess it's not Chinese Drywall causing the problems, but maybe you should have an electrician check things out? Voltage drops?

Had a Samsung repairman tell me that I should consider myself lucky if I got 10 years out of their refrigerators, washers, or dryers.
