"He hasn’t looked good against SEC competition"

Neither has anyone else who started on Sundays, including Hurd! JJ is very set in not making personnel changes...

You must not follow baseball closely.
JJ is constantly changing things up.

True Fr that missed his Sr. Leave him as the Midweek, let him develop, and compete for a weekend spot next year. Tremendous Potential!

Just listening to Jay's postagme yesterday I think we're going to see some different options out of the pen this weekend instead of continuing to try what hasn't been working. He mentioned specifically that Dutton and Moffet will be on the travel roster.

Moffet didn’t look bad honestly. High velocity, good run on the fastball. More importantly he threw strikes. Honestly that was the first time I’ve been able to watch him pitch where he wasn’t walking everyone.

Moffet hasn't been traveling? Dude throws 97/98, has a 1.5 ERA, and seems to have done a great job fixing his control issues from last year. What's the deal? I think Ronnie or Lyn last night said it was his 1st time to pitch in 8 days. WTF is that? Who are we traveling? But seriously, is he hurt? Cause if not, I don't understand how you can sit there Saturday while Vandy embarrasses you at home, hitting more home runs that weekend than they had all the previous SEC weekends altogether, with that dude in the dugout just spitting seeds. Unless he tweaked something.

And I absolutely think Anderson should start Sunday. I think he should have already started a Game 3. I think he's a dude. I think he will wind up getting drafted higher than anyone on this staff, depending on how Cam develops. I also think his struggles in the weekends has been more due to the completely different prep than prepping to start than it is he's just overwhelmed by SEC hitting. When he was dominant in his 1st 2 or 3 midweek starts, he was going on a full week's rest. When they decided to use him in the pen, he was still throwing midweek, just throwing less pitches. That may work great for some guys--throw 30 pitches on Tuesday and 40 on Saturday. But that may not be what works best for Anderson. He may be stronger at 100 pitches on a full week's rest than he is at a combined 70 with only 3-4 days in between.

And that's not even considering how many times he gets up and down in a weekend and doesn't go in the game. A few people have mentioned "easing him in," because he's coming off TJ, but I think using him the way they are now is probably harder on his arm than just letting him start and go as long as he can once a week. If you meant "easing him in" mentally, frick that. The SEC is littered every year with freshmen who throw high leverage innings. And like I think splitting him up may be harder on his arm, it's probably harder on his brain, too. At least when you start, you know exactly what day you're pitching, what time it starts, what time you need to start your pregame routine, who you're facing 1st inning, etc...

I'm sure some of you will think I have too high expectations of him--and they are admittedly high, but I don't think too high. But more than that, I have very low expectations of Hurd and the other candidates. I may be crowning him too soon, but I think he's a fricking stud and, as of now, is probably the leading candidate to be our Friday night guy next year. So you may be able to help the rotation this year and help prepare him for next. Anyway, him throwing last night kills what I would have done with him. I guess he can still start, but it won't be on full rest and he will be limited. Maybe they keep him away from having his 1st SEC start in Knoxville, throw him a couple innings out of the pen, let him skip the midweek game Tuesday, then be ready to go at the Box Sunday on full rest.

Excellent post. Totally agree on all accounts. I hated that he pitched 3 innings yesterday

Can only take 27 on the road in SEC play so a lot of guys gotta sit back at home especially when we have 40 guys on the team.

Jay mentioned that last night as well. That was a reason he left him off the roster last weekend to give him some rest. Now will he start this weekend after pitching a few innings last night. I don’t know. But at this point try some things new
