I know there are a lot of well traveled people here. I have two kids 11 and 13. Looking for good “short” trips to take them on. I would ideally leave on a Thursday after work and have all day Friday through Sunday and fly or drive back early Monday. So being a quicker trip will be more hitting the hot spots of wherever. Which I’m fine with. If we like any enough we can go back for longer trips later.

Just looking for general ideas and what you would recommend to do in that timespan wherever it is.

Thanks to all in advance.

Since you may drive, where do you live?

Last year, I brought my 3 kids tent camping and kayaking on the Buffalo National River near Yellville, Arkansas.
We stayed at Buffalo Point Campground with zero cell service, so they had to get back to the basics.
We used Buffalo Outdoor Center for kayak rental and moving our car to the takeout spot.

If you want a city, I think Chicago in the summer with a cubs game and a river architecture tour is the best 3 day trip with kids of that age.

If you want outdoors really depends on from where you are coming and what type of outdoors you want.

Also really can’t beat any stretch of highway 1 between San Fran and LA in California for a short taste of the best of the US.

Where you live and if we are dealing with boys or girls will affect some of the suggestions...

I will echo Chicago as a great tourist down in the summer...Los Angeles is great too.

or try a place in the mountains like Park City...

My initial thought was Grand Canyon area. And I have a boy and a girl for what it’s worth. But I want this to be come an annual type deal so def open to lots of suggestions bc may try some down the line.

New York will def happen but probably when they’re a little older.

San Antonio/hill country

Can’t go wrong there. Can drive through Sedona valley on way to or from Grand Canyon from Phoenix and that would be a great trip for everyone.

I think most major cities are good for 3 days...I think Chattanooga would be great! See Rock City and Look Out Mountain.

I like these two cities a lot.

Washington DC & the general area.

St Louis has a lot to do but it can be hot & humid in the summer.

With kids that age, Gatlinburg and the Smokies might be fun.

Also New Orleans in spring or Chicago in summer.

Blue Ridge Ga is fun.

Cheaper side, 8+ hour drive, and beautiful scenery

Estes Park is pretty easy.

Direct flights New Orleans to Denver. Choose your own rental car from Avis. Drive 1:45 to Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park.

Stay at YMCA of the Rockies in their cabins. Explore the park for three days.

Fly to Durango and rent a car.

Mountain stuff, Million Dollar Highway, go see the Pueblo structures, hike up a mountain, ride the train, stop in Telluride, fun few days.
