Kind of seems like you don't understand what he's talking about.

I know exactly what he was talking about, and he is either full of shite, doesn't know what he is talking about, or came into the one rental in a million.

FWIW, I've stayed in vacation rentals that don't provide sheets or towels. This was obviously advertised. But it also didn't ruin my vacation.

People hate cleaning fees. I don't know why it chaps his arse so bad, I was simply explaining that its a hell of a lot more than washing the sheets and running the dishes.

Again though, no shite that rental costs have gone up what hasn't? Insurance and real estate has skyrocketed since 2021. Why should anyone expect to pay less to rent?

The Gatlinburg area had one of the largest increases and then bubble pops in the country. So did areas like Palm Springs. This idea that the increase of vacation rental costs is just the Gulf Coast is simply ignorant.

It's not that people hate cleaning fees, it's that it seems that more and more rentals are asking people to do more in that dept with a hefty cleaning fee on top of it. Sure, some people may, but those people are unreasonable to think that it doesn't cost anything to have a place cleaned before new guests arrive. I do think it may make more sense just to have the cleaning fee included in the total cost, but I guess it's pretty industry standard to break that out.

I've definitely passed on airbnb's that include a cleaning fee but ask more than the basic - strip the beds/towels in the tub, take the trash to the dumpster and start the dishwasher.

I typically rent off airbnb 3-4 times a year, so I look at lots of rentals on there yearly and I do see more and more additional asks from hosts about cleanup. I rent full houses almost exclusively, so I don't look at many condo's or smaller rentals, but it's definitely a more common occurrence than it used to be. I could see it going the other way in the near future given the pushback I've seen online about it.

Could you leave more than 1 roll of cheap paper towels? Maybe splurge for Downey? How about upgrading to 2 ply TP? Maybe some salt and pepper, too.
