It happened to my mom one time. Squirrels chewed up a bunch of car wires. We have a carport not a garage and we had to quit parking in the carport (because of the squirrels) and that actually helped.
It also seemed like when we quit putting out bird seed in several areas of the yard that we started seeing less squirrels. They love bird seed.
