Is the record number of walks in Yeskie?
158 walks coming into this game. Last year at this point LSU had given up 144 walks through 37 games. That is just over 1 more walk every 3 games. and last season we had Skeenes and Floyd throwing half the games.

Probably so, but its not him telling them to throw balls.
No shite? No shite! The pitch calling is terrible and repetitive. I figured a baseball aficionado like yourself would have recognized it and would’ve had an intelligent response instead of your meathead reply. No shite he doesn’t type ball or strike into the watch.

You have to ignore the fact that pitching has evolved significantly just in the last 10 and continues to evolve to think that it’s impossible that Nate Yeskie has digressed as a coach.
Throwing strikes is still pretty basic.
Look, there is still a gulf between Nate Yeskie and being a bad pitching coach.

We are also talking about walks, are you suggesting that Yeskie is calling pitches off the plate with a 3-ball count?
Are you suggesting that calling pitches off the plate early in counts has no effect on if a batter is walked or not?
Only if the pitcher does not hit his spots later in the count. Which is why we get walks.
If you want to criticize Yeskies pitch calling, then use the home runs or hits given up.

I wonder if he calls pitch and location or does the catcher call for the location?
At times, some of these guys are missing location and it’s like he keeps calling the same pitch. Guidry the other night kept throwing the cutter over and over again. Moore finally got into one after about 5 in a row. I’m like throw the fkn curve. Where has that pitch gone?
Just very repetitive. If I can see it so can the opponents. To me, it seems like many pitches get ambushed

Absolutely not, but that wasn’t why I replied. I did so because a baseball “expert” made light of someone asking if Yeskie was intentionally calling balls.
He made light of someone asking if he was intentionally calling balls in reference to LSU's high number of walks. The implication is that he was calling balls that directly resulted in a walk
quote:Even a casual fan should understand balls are called out of the strike zone when the pitcher is up in a count, particularly at 0-2 or 1-2, to try to elicit a swing at a pitch that is difficult to hit.
And I replied, yes he does. But of course I would expect the “experts” here to understand I’m talking about 0-1, 0-2 or 1-2 counts.

That’s not what I was asking. His pitch calling is suspect and repetitive. Missing the spot and calling the same pitch over and over again certainly doesn’t help the kid.
The situational pitching and bullpen use is also confusing at times.

So as an expert, are you not aware that pitches are often called off the plate?
sure but I dont think he calls
Ball a mile outside
Ball a mile outside
Ball a mile outside
Meatball

Absolutely not
They absolutely call for balls with a three ball count. High fastballs out of the zone get strikeouts all the time. So do sliders breaking out of the zone.

Gone pecan; someone has to fall on sword and it isn’t CJJ

The majority of this falls on our pitchers not being to execute and hit their spots.
Is some of this developmental? Probably some.
The issue I have is the super non competitive pitches in plus pitchers counts. Just seems to me there are a lot of throw away pitches way off the plate.
After watching every pitch of LSU baseball this year, I’m
Of the opinion he calls way too many breaking pitches, as well.

It's unreal.
Just attack the fricking hitter. Stop wasting pitches. Holman might be able to get to the 7th if you stop calling waste pitches every time he gets to 0-2.

I agree as well but I will say that this year it seems to stand out more that we have made some terrible pitches with 0-2 or 1-2 counts. Basically just putting a ball on a tee. I’m not sure what the stats are but it seems excessive at this point. It feels like it’s almost guaranteed that if we get ahead in the count the hitter is getting a pitch to smash. The only question is will it stay in the yard or not.

Exactly but according to the “experts” on the board the only way Yeskie can be a bad pitch caller is if he’s calling balls.

Who calls pitches?
who is throwing the pitches?
Yeskie isn't forcing walks, we are just missing the strikezone
That's not saying Yeskie isn't calling some obvious pitches, but it's not ALL on the player or coach, they share the blame

Time to look around at better options.

Or maybe he's not great on mechanics?
