We only had Plutonium for one more bomb. (they were enriching more but it would have taken time) The core for the third bomb became known as demon core. This core was used in some criticality experiments. Twice the experiment went wrong and killed two physicist.

My uncle survived MacArthur's Island Hopping campaign, his last engagement was on Guadalcanal. They were told that, after only 2 mths of R&R, they would be training to invade Japan. When the bombs were dropped & the Japanese surrendered, just in his command alone, 1000's of Americans were saved. My 4 cousins are extremely happy today.
