Dying and being sent to the afterlife has been imprinted on humans for as long as we have been in society, when cities realized merging religion with sociology kept order.

Because something occurs in the brain - physically - at the moment of death or assured perception of death.
I hope it’s comforting, but it’s not evidence for other dimensions or an afterlife.
