There are already gen 6 prototypes, I imagine the cost on those will be unreal.

Not if you take the pilot out of the cockpit.
That's the answer to this question btw. If you don't have to keep a pilot alive, suddenly you're able to do things no other plane can. For cheaper than if you had to support that pilot.
