Jerry Seinfeld Calls The Movie Business “Over” As Hollywood Replaces Enjoyment With ‘Disorientation’

The legendary Jerry Seinfeld is embarking on a new chapter in Hollywood as a movie director. His highly-anticipated feature film debut “Unfrosted,” backed by Netflix, brings the comedy icon to the director’s chair for the first time.

In a new interview with GQ magazine, Jerry Seinfeld reflected on making the jump to Hollywood filmmaking and working with the “dead serious” movie business. “They have no idea that the movie business is over. Film doesn’t occupy the pinnacle in the cultural hierarchy that it did for most of our lives,” he said.

While movies may not have the same cultural status they once held, according to Seinfeld, the stand-up comedy craft remains valuable. “Stand-up is like you’re a cabinetmaker, and everybody needs a guy who’s good with wood,” he explained. “If you have good craft and craftsmanship, you’re kind of impervious to the whims of the industry.”

If there’s one man who knows about making successful movies in Hollywood, it’s definitely Jerry Seinfeld

So his hour+ long Pop-Tart/Kellogg ad guised as a movie is case in point or a giant troll job?

he's as blind as the rest of you. screen has been used for 100 years to mold minds. tvs and movies were as extreme in the 40's and 50's relative to then as it is today.

I’d love to go to the theater to watch a good comedy but they literally don’t exist anymore. It sucks. Movies made by streaming services don’t hit the same.

Streaming and cable has replaced movies.

“Not that there’s anything wrong with that.” We’ve had Sopranos, GOT, Mad Men, Breaking Bad, etc. etc.

The stand-up comedian believes stand-up is still valuable? I’m shocked.
