@TigrrrDad,
Have you ever found an eastern diamondback rattlesnake in Louisiana? I know their historical range included at least Washington and St. Tammany parishes, but I think they are largely gone now from Louisiana. Would that most likely be correct or not?
One other question. Does the western diamondback rattlesnake naturally range anywhere on the western side of Louisiana?

I have not. Only one I’ve personally caught was in Florida, though a friend gets them in Mississippi.

Nah, in Texas their natural range runs a lil bit away from the eastern border with Louisiana.
Hoping to do a Texas trip next year for some, but right now I’m so obsessed with the Everglades. Going back next month.

quote:There were never that many actually less than a dozen "reported" all time. One was reported near Franklinton in early 90s some grad students did a lot of searching but came up zeros. That is the last reported sighting. I remember reading something at LSU that had all reports of an area from north of Franklinton to just east of folsom. Given the habitat and land use changes - safe bet none remain in LA. closest report to LA was about 45 miles east of state line shortly after katrina.
