I truly wtf'd after the ghost of John Bel Hood showed up, played by Levon Helm.

Haven't seen that in a long time, need to revisit it. Wish they would make more movies based on Burke's books.

I thought it was a decent movie, but I've read all of James Lee Burke's Dave Robicheaux novels. I don't believe this movie was ever released in theaters, it went directly to cable and dvd.
I thought Tommy Lee Jones played Dave Robicheaux just as JLB created him. Great that Dave Goodman was in this flick, but I always envisioned him as Clete (whose character was not in this book or movie.)

Knew about the book, but did not know this movie existed; was intrigued after reading all the comments from you baws... I found it for free on Plex via Cox Cable and watched it tonight.
It was entertaining, and it's always cool to see south Louisiana in movies, but some of the acting was pretty bad-- particularly the black musician (Hog-Man). And the follow-up at the end (what happened to some of the characters) seemed a little forced and extraneous.
But overall, I did enjoy it - nice way to spend a chill Friday night at home. Thanks to the OP and the rest for bringing it to my attention.
