I don’t know anything about GEs but my kitchenAID did this to me and all I had to do was replace the little door that lets cold air in from freezer. It had burned o in the open position. Easy DIY fix.

The dampner op didn't give enough info but many ge fridges are dual evaporator so they don't have a connection between the freezer and the fridge. Like sub zero.
