If St. George is allowed to form its own school district, then it's going to be interesting to see what happens when the legacy costs that the EBR school system is currently paying are offloaded on the new St. George School district. It's one of the reasons why taxes are so high in Zachary.
EBR got stuck with the legacy costs of Baker, Zachary, and Central. They are still funding those costs by the way.
Zachary’s taxes are so high because the people of Zachary decided they wanted to pay more for public schools after the breakaway than they were before. That was their choice, and they seem happy with their choice. Central also raised their taxes as well, and they seem happy. Baker didn’t raise the millage rates and they have been in financial difficulty ever since. Logically, you have to assume if St. George breaks away millage rates will go up, voters should educate themselves and just be aware of that when the time comes to vote.
