Call around to some of your local dirt guys and see what they've got.

The guy I use on the northshore has some beautiful sandy/dirt mix that spreads great but also lets stuff grow in it. Not cheap, but I like it.

I talked to Manco services out of Folsom and they didn't speak too highly of it. They said it had weeds growing in it, which means it's probably not properly composted.

I also talked with Schmelly's Dirt Farm on the Southshore. I think this is legit compost, but I've never made the drive down there to get some.
