Colony is a room and a shower. Don't expect much more. That said, it's in the middle of everything SB, so you'll not spend much time there likely.
I like day drinking and people watching at the News Cafe.
Most hotels will let you in the bar area, but I think the Clevelander is the only one that will let you hang around the pools.
Don't miss Espanola (it's a pedestrian district just across Washington between 14th and 15th).
Joe's Stone Crabs, previously mentioned, is a must if you can.
