Would’ve thought he’d be picked before Smith

NFL scouts drool over physical stature and big name schools. Maason Smith has been talked about as an early round pick since he was in high school thanks to the recruiting services.

Wingo was far more impactful as a player but will get knocked down because there was no hype for him. He's no different than someone like Sheldon Rankins but because there's no hype the scouts don't care.

Combine the hype with Masons early enjury, and scouts think they might have a potential diamond in the rough. Early injury limited Masons development.

If Wingo is what he can be, he will be a solid journeyman with a long career. If Smtih is what he can be, he will be an All-Pro. The question is whether or not the gamble is worth it. With Jefferson, the Jags are hedging their bet. Jefferson will be a solid start, but not an all-star. If Smith doesn't pan out, the structure of rookie contracts makes it much less of a gamble.
