My question from the beginning was simply wondering what Jay saw or didn’t see

It’s always a simple answer to these questions, He wasn’t performing in practice until something starting clicking and then he took off in games. Every coach deals with these situations. Jay gave ample opportunity to others who were producing in the fall and early spring and it didn’t translate to the games. Larson struggled at first but finally adapted to SEC caliber ball and here we are. Not much more too it than that.

That’s fair honestly. All I’m saying is that the fall and spring keep coming up and if you look at it, Brown regressed and Larson improved, yet one guy was in the opening day lineup and the other was buried behind a catcher trying to play outfield.

When you add in our struggles offensively and then look at the improvement in K% for Larson between the fall and spring as well as his overall numbers improving in the spring, imo it’s fair to wonder what the deciding factors were. Neal in RF felt like forcing a round peg in a square hole. I wouldn’t have thought twice if it had gone Brown, Pearson, Frey, then Larson.

And to be clear, I have never been under the impression that our season would be different if Larson had started from day one. This team was only going to go as far as our pitching would take us. I don’t blame Jay for anything and like I said in my opening post, it doesn’t even matter at this point. We got the right guy in the right spot. It’s just a curiosity question that some people can’t wrap their heads around without thinking the coach is being blamed, is an idiot, or someone on TD could do a better job.
