I’m not complaining about starting Anderson over Herring, but can anyone tell me what took so long to pull him?

Without watching that inning I can’t wrap my head around why he waited so long before going to Herring.

It didn’t take long. He pulled him quickly. Can read through beginning of game thread to see how it went down

The sooner you stop trying to rationalize Jay's decisions this year the better off you will be. Just ask yourself what common sense dictates and assume he will do the opposite.

Anderson was very unlucky. Jam shot dropped in short right for their first run. Then he hit a batter and allowed two weak ground balls away from the shift that scored two more (hit right at where the SS would be). He was then pulled and Hellmers allowed a 2 run double to the first batter he faced. One guy hit Anderson hard. The first batter of the game hit a double. All 5 of their runs came with 2 outs. With normal infield positioning, they score 1 run on a bloop single and the inning ends on the next batter. Who Jay started had little to do with how that inning played out. Inducing weak contact is exactly what you want out of Anderson, which he did. Very bad baseball misfortune in his outing today

Lots of flares that got into the right place at the right time. Hard to prevent.

He gave up a rope of a double to start the game then seemed to bounce back. Then he hit a guy and got screwed by the shift on two weak hits that would’ve been right at the SS. Then he got pulled. He didn’t exactly pitch great but didn’t pitch bad in the short amount of time he was out there

Well for one he really wasn’t getting hit hard minus the lead off hitter. The next was a jam shot, hit batter, and two guys that hit it right at where the short stop normally plays. Any kind of luck has Anderson out of that inning still with 0 runs.

The lead off battter was the only hard hit ball in the first inning.
Anderson probably would’ve gotten out of the inning with just one run on the board in our shortstop was playing normal position.

Jay still believes in the infield shift. That’s pretty much what happened
