I wonder what would have happened if we saved the death camp prisoners but left him to keep battling the soviets.

Death camp prisoners were freed once the Allies took those areas once occupied by German troops. There was no chance in hell of saving all the Jews taken prisoner and exterminated by the Nazis.

As far as Hitler himself fighting ANYBODY, it wasn't going to happen. He was a delusional megalomaniac who didn't want to end up like Mussolini and being killed and strung up in a public square to have his corpse beaten by his own people. So, he took the cowards way out with the Soviets less than a mile out of Berlin.

The Soviets would have crushed Germany even worse.
Germany couldn't win a drawn out war of attrition.
