How would the 2002 Kings rank if Vlade didn’t tip the ball to Horry?

Assuming the Kings still win Game 5 and sweep the Nets, that’s a 16-3 playoff run (including 8-0 on the road). They would’ve soundly beaten a Lakers team that was 22-2 in the playoffs going back to 2001. I’d rank them higher than most NBA champions.

Lets not go crazy here.

That was a very skilled team and fun to watch.

But obviously lacked "it".

There are too many assumptions in your scenario to say where they'd rank with any certainty. If Horry doesn't hit that shot, whose to say the ref shenanigans don't start in game 5?

Ultimately, the Kings still had a Game 7 at home to shut everyone up, and they didn't get the job done. They were only 16/30 from the FT line that day. If they just hit their season average as a team, they win in regulation.

They'd be a one year wonder team - not ranked that high

They were the runaway favorites going into the 2003 playoffs and probably wouldn’t have even been pushed to 6 in any series had Webber not torn his meniscus.

Yep, had two games to close em out. It wasn’t like Horry’s shot was the series clincher, just made it 2-2. They choked

How would the 2018 Saints rank if the cheating refs had called pass interference?

Best in franchise history and definitely the best SB champion since the 2013 Seahawks.

Obviously not a Saints fan, but y'all's 2011 team is the best one y'all have had, IMO. I thought their 2009 and 2017 teams were better than 2018, too, and I'd probably still feel that way even had they won the Super Bowl in 2018.

I don't really think the 2002 Kings would be remembered all that much even had they won the title, honestly. It was a hell of a team, but I get the sense they would be remembered kind of like the 2019 Raptors.

That's just it. You can't separate the legend from the circumstances that made it such. Big shot Bob won wherever he went. He had ice water in his veins and did so many smart things on a basketball court that made teams NBA champions. Vlade and Webber wanted to immediately let the world know after the Big shot that it was just luck. Robert Horry retorted he must not know who I am. Shaq just kept referring to them as the Queens and they moved on to the next game.

People just ignore how badly Game 5 was rigged for the Kings. The NBA wanted Game 7; the Kings had it at home, and lost.

What about the 2003 Kings that lost to Dallas in the second round, after Chris Webber went down with a knee injury. They would have faced San Antonio in the WC Finals and would have faced the Nets in the Finals.

A YouTube video about how the injury affected the SacKings

Until Webber got hurt that was the most frenetic playoff game the Mavs had played in the teams history. The Mavs had a 44-40 lead at the end of the 1st quarter.. In that quarter Peja had 17 and Webber had 15. Dirk had 18 and Adrian Griffin had 8.

The Mavs held the Kings to 21 in the 2nd quarter while scoring 39. Webber had 6 in the second for the Kings. Nash had ten and Nick Van Exel came off the bench for Dallas with 15 in the 2nd period.

That's the only 83 point half I've ever worked. I doubt there had been many of those in the playoffs up to 2003. Only 83-61 half I've covered too. It's the only game where I needed more than one of my scoring sheets for both teams. The sheets were just blank Excel grids where I kept up with scoring, points, fouls, etc. A normal quarter took up around 3/4's of the page. At the end of the game I usually had four partial sheets.

Webber had 31 points when he got hurt with under four minutes in the 3rd quarter. At the end of the game Peja had 24. Jim Jackson, an ex-Mav had 12 off the bench for the Kings.

With Dallas giving their starters some rest, Van Exel went off in the 2nd half for 17 points. Michael Finley and Dirk finished the game with 24 apiece. Nash had 19 and Adrian Griffin had 15, and Van Exel finished with 36.

That was such a great time to live in Sacramento.

The would certainly have beat the Nets had they got pass the Lakers. We didn’t have the clutch players to beat the Lakers. I was Lakers fan prior to moving here but haven’t been once since.
