Again- there is social science on this. Read. Don’t emote. Read and learn. And if too lazy to educate oneself just know that dysfunctional people are attracted to dysfunctional ideas. Solid people are attracted to solid ideas. A lot of that is evolutionary biology and genetics. Well adjusted people don’t dabble in catastrophic philosophies. And poorly adjusted people do because they have a propensity to seek meaning in bad annd temporal ideas.

And you know this how? Because of some shite you see on a news show or on some TD posts? Because of stories about then in the media? Yeah, that's not all the normal, real women that are living everyday lives that most of us work with everyday or see in our neighborhoods.
You just didn't know how messed up those women were in the 50s. It's literally a large part of what created the 60s.

When people make excuses for their outcome, I often realize nature dodged a bullet in the long run. Party people arent meant to raise children.
People that like to travel are "party people" and not meant to have kids? I'm not sure what kind of travelling you do.
And someone else said you can still travel if you had kids. Well, yes, but it's likely that you don't have nearly as much money to do it and also likely that you don't have enough to retire earlier as well. Another DINK couple I'm friends with made that choice 30+ years ago. They are extremely happy. You don't need kids to be happy. That's a complete myth. I know people with them who are happy (me!) and people without as well.

I won’t lie, I find the moving goalposts entertaining. 10 years ago, the OT consensus was people needed at least one kid to protect you from the nursing home industry. ….Since then, it seems pretty well accepted the kids are more than willing to ship their parents to the cheapest home possible to salvage the inheritance.

So Don’t send your kid to daycare. Church preK (4 hours a day) in my town costs 200 a month per kid. Every kid that attends tests much higher than grade level in both math and reading when they reach public school. Or send them to some expensive daycare, if you can afford it.
People drastically overstate their “needs” when most of it is simply their “wants”. I think this is probably the case with many of the DINKs in the OP who said they couldn’t “afford” children. If they really wanted them, they’d figure it out. It’s ok that they don’t want kids, but no reason to act like they are only choosing that path for financial reasons. The thread is filled with stories about all the extra money DINKs have for travel and early retirement. And that’s a perfectly valid choice. You can choose to have vacations and early retirement. You can choose to have kids. Some people can have both. I’m not criticizing anything about either group. Just stating that “I can’t afford it” should usually be stated more correctly as “I don’t want to afford it”.

You are obviously right, no one can afford to have kids except the wealthy. It takes literally tons of money to have and raise kids. If I can’t have a new Tahoe, Jaxon can’t play travel ball, and we can’t spend 3 weeks at Rosemary Beach each year..why should I have kids?
