I'm not super knowledgeable about baseball, but this play and Tommy Tanks' play....why are they sliding with the lead foot high in the air and trying to tag with the back foot?

The role of the trailing foot is to tag the bag and the role of the leading foot is to cleat the second baseman right in the face.

You get your front foot in the air so your spikes don’t catch the ground as you are sliding and roll an ankle.

But Milam should have got the front foot down on the bag.
