I'll say this. They reviewed several plays and might have got the call right afterwards. The problem is that the actual replay footage didn't provide definitive proof. So, they were making assumptions during every review last night.

You shouldn't make assumptions on video footage that is front to back (both this video review and the Milam at 2nd review).

The perspectives are off. Logic tells you that glove was close to the ball. Forced perspective tells you that glove could be a foot or more behind the ball. Same for Milams slide.

You can't make changes to a call when you're having to guess.

Studying this is like studying JFK Dallas footage

Per the google machine..

quote:

Unless provided otherwise by local ground rule, a fair fly ball striking the top of the outfield wall that in the umpire's judgment would have bounded over the wall if not for the permissible action of a spectator shall be ruled a home run

From that angle the fan couldn’t have touched the ball and made the ball not go over the wall without reaching over. The fan either didn’t touch the ball or he reached over and touched it. Which is impossible to do. So he didn’t touch the ball and it hit off the top of the wall on its own.

I disagree on one point here. From what I saw, it looks like his glove flexed downward and the ball's trajectory changes slightly. I think if he does not touch the ball, it comes down slightly further back against the stands or on the very top of the fence, out of the reach of the A&M player and a home run. As such, I think the ruling should probably have been a Home Run but minimally a ground-rule double, I do not believe the glove interfered with the outfielder's ability to make a play.

How big is that gap? It def doesn’t look big enough to prevent a fan reaching over

It's absolutely not.

We sit in row 1 of 124 and have been since the section was built. You could easily reach over the fence at the old box and you can do so now.

CSB: s we use to beat on the old wall as it was metal and made a good racket after a big play. But at the new box we did it out habit the first few games but it makes no noise as it's cushy foam.

That said, any grown man or woman can reach over the fence and put their hands on the yellow part of the wall.

Hope this clears up any confusion.

Here's what to do and what NOT to do if you're in the front row of the outfield sections and ball is coming your way but falls short of the fence. In the pic on the right, the ball is about to hit the top of the wall right in front of the big ogre in purple shirt. He smartly pulls hand back in time not interfering with the play. This was ruled a Tanks HR.

I think hitting the yellow stripe is a home run.

I hope you’re watching today and saw that it’s not.
