That's why Stewart Elliot is a and always will be journeyman rider. He lost that race, not the horse. Where is he now? Lone Star?

Dan is confirmed for the Preakness!

Any chance NBC threw the owners some cash? That would make up for any potential lost stud fees if he goes out and embarrasses himself? I've probably watched 30 Derbys in my life. Have watched zero Preaknesses when the Derby winner wasn't in the field. Granted, I'm just a sports fan and a complete casual. But I can't be the only one. I bet the ratings for the Preakness without the Derby winner are abysmal.

No. Like I said… he needs to do more with his pedigree to get a really good stud deal and actually be supported with decent mares. Why do you think a horse needs to be retired early in his 3 year old year? You seem to be part of the problem…

Also, Kenny would not be running him if he weren’t showing good signs, especially since he’s run bad on short rest in the past.

They are, and it is our fault. No real outcrosses in the bloodlines, breeding unsound horses because they are FAST, and breeding to sell instead of race. It sucks.

It seems like everything is either a tapit, into mischief, or uncle mo line these days

Except he shipped out to pimlico this morning.

Also, the Belmont is definitely not historically a sire making race

Barbaro was that horse until Brother Derek murdered him at the Preakness.

Horse is tired, as owners supposedly say, but runs the horse.

He is a MAJOR bet against, he wont hit the board

Plenty of horses are tired and running. Freedom and steel are running back too. Why not try? He’s training well and if nobody shows up baffert wins in a walkover.

He went into the derby not as the choice too. It’s fine. Horse doesn’t know if he’s the favorite or not.

Not sure what point you are trying to make to me as I’m the one saying he needs more on his resume to be considered for a decent and not regional stud deal…

Are you saying people should skip the derby now? You can be very confusing.

I don’t know much about horses. Can running one race really beat them down like that?

Yes, and I’ll kindly take that $260 exacta on my $12 bet.

1 1/4 is a distance not really run by most horses these days. The derby is probably the only time most of these horses will try that distance. Couple that with running really hard, and yes it can.

He’s a little more fresh than some because he skipped the second race of the 3 race prep at oaklawn.

Those Secretariat/Sham races were as exciting as horse racing gets. Until the Belmont, we all thought they were equally matched horses. Sham had actually beaten Secretariat earlier in the year.

Seattle Slew was better than all of them.
