Work brought me to the Tampa area, just a little north. I drove over to Weeki Wachee springs area, then caught a sunset on Pine Island. Sun melts into the gulf. Super chill at the Pine Island Park.. family friendly place.
FWIW you can walk a few hundred yards off the beach and still be knee deep.

Anna Maria Island I think is the best in that area

Yes- I have stayed here before. It is nice to have your own little bungalow right on the beach. AMI is great location close to TPA. The Don Cesar is really cool historical hotel on St. Pete Beach.. Further south, you have Lido Key, Siesta Key, Englewood beach.

Siesta Key is great and fairly priced.
