Yes, I did.

Not great. I had a lot of debt to pay off when I started my new job from living off of credit cards for about two months. This was over 20 years ago when I was very young, but I don't recommend doing it. I swore to myself I'd never quit a job again without a solid plan in place.

It turned out exceptionally poorly.

I have more than once. I always landed on my feet and found better work than I had before.

Having done it the other way as well, I will admit you are better off if you have a plan when you exit.

Once, but it was a unique circumstance. I was in my early 20s and working at a psychiatric residential treatment facility for 18 and under. I had been there almost a year (job had a high turnover rate) and applied for a position where I wouldn't be floating between PRTF "houses" and would consistently be with the same kids every day. The position was also with some kids that were in a less restrictive setting, so less restraints and holds/violent behaviors. They told me because my position was so hard to fill and I was doing a "fantastic job" they didn't want to move me. Two days later, one of the newer kids they brought in under some changes in intake criteria broke my coworker's jaw while trying to restrain him. I quit that week.

Thankfully I had been working so much OT that I had a nice savings that allowed me time to look around for something else. I hired in with the local school district about a month later.

If you can go 3 months without a job, do it. All really depends on what you do now vs. what you want to do in the future. If you have skills that people are willing to pay for, you can find a job in a month. Something will open up. Only thing to consider is that you may have to commute differently afterwards.

Without knowing what you have going on, I would suggest tightening up your resume before leaving. Have it ready to go to wherever you plan on working so that you can at least have a starting point.

Quiet quitting is one way to go instead of resigning without another job lined up. It all depends on whether you can stand your current employment situation.

As I have an obligation to provide for my family, I certainly wouldn't quit my current employer without another job lined up.

I’m about there. How’d it turn out for you?

Yep, it's the only job I gave no notice on.

In my 20's I managed a men's dept in a Steinmart in a mall. One day we had a shoplifter and one of the mall cops and I chased him down (out into traffic).

As a manager, part of my evaluation was how much theft (called "shrink") we had in my department. We were getting skull-fricked by a ring of shoplifters and corporate management hired (and I'm not shitting you) a female midget as our security person after months of complaining (her son was seen shoplifting there, but that's another story).

The cop and I have the shoplifter in the back, the store manager calls and said if he would give back the merchandise there would be no charges.

The next day at the manager's meeting I threw my badge at him, told him to shove it up his arse and walked out (it was a bit more detailed than that, but that's the highlights).

I didn't have shite lined up. Sat on my arse for a week or so then went out and found another job. The next job was meh but it didn't need to last all that long, I found a better one a few months later.

There's a bit of wisdom in not burning a bridge unless you absolutely have to. For me, that bridge burned itself.

I did it before I had a house and kids. Left a job I absolutely hated. Almost made me want to change careers. I planned on taking a month or so off…turned into 6 months. By that point I was out of savings. I had several interviews and a job offer after a couple of months but it took a couple of months before I could actually start. I’m working at the same place 10 years later and love my job so I guess it worked out.

I feel for you man. It sucks feeling trapped in something that makes you miserable. Not saying you’re trapped in your job but I understand the feeling. I’m there myself.

I’ve thought about just quitting many times. Where I work provides a very nice lifestyle.

I’m to the point now that my line of thinking is peace of mind is priceless. Meaning I’d rather feel happy somewhere even if I had to lower my income.

I did. About two years ago. Best decision ever.

All I do now is play golf and write shitty screenplays. Sprinkle the occasional hunting trip or cycling work out in there too. Of course, I've also become a bit of an alcoholic but when everyday is Friday its kinda hard not to have a few here and there, you know?

I was fired a few years ago, sat on the bench 9 months before I could find a suitable replacement, if I had 1 year of savings I wouldn't hesitate, two weeks of expenses no way. i had one weeks of expenses left to my name when i started the new gig. (making 40% less), still 4 years later haven't made it back to where i was.

I walked off a good job and never returned because there was no time off. Regretted it early on but got over it.

Yes. I took a few months off to clear my mind and went back into the same industry.

I’d laugh this off as a joke normally but with the source, I’m almost inclined to believe it’s true

Yes. Essentially did it on faith (seriously, lots of prayer involved). It turned out well for me.
