Technology is just mind blowing. AI is such a slippery slope but I'm all aboard for how it was used in this instance. Great to hear Randy's "voice" again.

Story from The Tennessean

CBS Sunday Morning Segment

Official Music Video

Randy's long time friend Clay Walker's reaction to hearing the song for the first time

Yeah, and at least it was written by real people.
A really good song too.

I'd like to hear AI make Motley Crue's Vince Neil sound good again but I don't think it's advanced enough yet.

I was thinking what a great tool this could be for songwriters.
Take one of my songs and have a great singer demoing it.

It's a good song but this just feels evil. Not a fan at all

I would feel the same if Randy himself wasn’t involved in the process.

Looking at him in that video, I'm not sure that Randy is involved in much of anything, sadly.

Re-watching this video this morning, and I have to say, this is really good.
Unbelievably so.
It's a great song. Perfect for Randy Travis, but also sounds fresh and not outdated at the same time.
Watch Vince Gill's reaction between the 0:48- 0:53 second mark. It says it all IMO.

I wouldn't say that.
Don't let his physical situation fool you.
His ears still work and the man knows his stuff about music and singing.
He is in very small club of Country Music all-time great singers and there are less than 15 others in that club.
I'm sure he's found ways to communicate well, with those close to him.
When you consider all that he went through with alcohol and drugs before, he probably has more mental clarity than he had in the previous 40 years.
I'm happy for him. I think this song is going to be a pretty big hit.
It's great for Country Music too.

Vince gave him a big hug. That's awesome.

Clay Walker looks good.

Carrie was near tears listening to it.

Only reason I’m OK with it is because the dude can’t even sing or talk anymore.

But honestly, people said they liked the song. I thought it was kinda shitty.

It is certainly good to hear Randy's voice again and it is a heartwarming and beautiful story...

but at what cost?

The genie is out of the bottle on this and the end result, I believe, will move more control of what is produced and averrable to the public to the next Bezos, Zuckerburg, Musk.

In 20 years what most of us hear will be mostly AI. Yes, there will be a few bespoke "human" things, but more and more will become AI. And as the next generations are raised more and more on AI produced things, it will become what is expected.

I'm not hating on randy specifically, but this is the immortality people wanted. Will happen through AI.

Predictable, superfluous melody. Didn’t really have any Randy Travis charm to it. Just my opinion. The voice was dead on. That wasn’t all AI either. The scratch vocalist deserves most of the credit, he definitely had to do his homework on Randy.

But yeah, it was just a boring superfluous melody, I didn’t really listen to the lyrics, if it has no charm to it I’m not interested.

I don't disagree with this. Pretty basic, but a lot of RT's past stuff was.

This is where we are opposites. I'm a lyric and story first kind of guy.
If I have good idea lyrically, I can fix a melody most of the time, so that's generally what I pay attention to first.
Really working harder too on my own melodies these days.
I appreciate your reply by the way.

People will lose the ability to think for themselves, the ability to imagine, the ability to create. Already in the schools I see kids that can't think themselves out of a paper bag.

Were you expecting Periphery or something? It's a country song. Country music (specifically the vein of country music that RT championed) is built on simplicity. And that's the beauty of it.
